Downsize, Donate, and Shop at Bluebird Nest Resale Boutique to Support Your Community

About one year into running my professional organizing business, Bluebird Nest Organizing, I started noticing a few things…

1. 90% of my clients do not have a preference where their donations go. They also have no interest in taking the time to sell them. The vast majority of people just want the items out of their home.

2. I was making almost daily trips to donation centers.

One day, while making a routine donation drop-off, I looked at my client’s items and thought “there are some really nice items in here. Like, too nice for the donation center” but I had to empty my car for the next day’s organizing job. I continued to pull through the drop-off lane and watch the carefully boxed and bagged items get tossed into the big bins with complete disregard for breakables and other previously loved belongings. As I was driving home, I thought “there must be a better way.”

After considerable discussion with my husband, Pete, we decided to open a local resale boutique near our home in Dayton. Our goal is to try to help find the next happy home for certain donations while supporting our local community. We are both veterans, so a portion of the store proceeds will go towards a community organization close to our hearts: the Magnus Veterans Foundation (also located in Dayton).
